MAT - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When & how many times MAT is conducted in a year? Qualification & percentage needed for it.
A. Mat is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December. The minimum qualification for appearing in MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognized University or equivalent recognized degree. A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc) can also appear provisionally. Usually, there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation, which is different for different MIs/University. For this refer to the prospectus of the particular MIs/University.

Q. How many Management Institutes participate in MAT. Do they keep on changing or remain the same? Is there a same admission criterion for each & every Institute? Are they recognized, by AICTE? Do they have hostel facility? What about the total fee?
A. The number of participating Management Institutes may vary. The number of MI’s keeps on changing from test to test. Admission criteria for every institute is different. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE approved or affiliated to some Universities, for further information you may contact the MIs/Universities of your choice. The list of various Management Institutes /Universities is available in MAT bulletin along with the admission notification. It may be worthwhile to go through the brochure of the Management Institutes for detailed information.

Q. What is the cost of the Bulletin? The DD, which is to be made, should be in whose favor?
A. At Present the cost of a MAT bulletin is Rs.750/- by cash across the AIMA, New Delhi counter/ Select UTI Bank branches/ AIMA Nodal Centres all over India and Rs.790/- against Demand Draft (DD) by post. DD should be made in favor of AIMA-CMS, payable at New Delhi.

Q. What is the validity of MAT score?
A. Validity of the MAT score is for that particular session for most Management Institutes, but for AIMA-CME’s PGDM & PGDITM programmes, the score is valid for one year. For more detail, please visit our website:- www.aima-ind.org

Q. What is the last date of submitting filled in MAT OMR Form?
A. Last date for submission is mentioned in the MAT bulletin. The last date also appears in the notification released by AIMA in various national & regional newspapers.

A. For applying to MI’s it is suggested that the prospectus of the MI’s opted should be bought.

Q. Is MAT held all over the country what about a person living abroad? Can he/she apply for it?

Q. Do we get a separate Admit Card for appearing in MAT?
A. Candidate has to download his/her admit card from aima website 7 days before the Test Date with the registration form number. No separate admit card is mailed to candidate.

Q. Is there any age bar for it? Any Job experience required, to appear in MAT?
A. There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.

Q. Is appearance in MAT necessary for getting admission into PGDM/ MBA programme ?
A. Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM / equivalent programmes offered by AIMA or other MIs who participate in it.

Admission to MBA and MCA Courses in Karnataka for the year 2008-2009
Pursuant to the issue of Government Notification No. ED 27 TEC 2008 for Admission to MBA/MCA for the year 2008, the Karnataka PGCET – 2008 is being conducted under the supervision of Central Post Graduate Admission Committee (CPAC) for the purpose of determining the merit of both Karnataka and Non-Karnataka Candidates for admission to the First year, First semester of full time (2 years) and part time (3 years) Master of Business Administration (MBA) and full time (3 years) Master of Computer Applications (MCA) courses, in University Departments and institutions affiliated to the following Universities- Bangalore, Gulbarga, Karnatak, Kuvempu, Mangalore, Mysore, Tumkur, Karnataka State Women’s University and Visvesvaraya Technological University, within the State of Karnataka for the academic year 2008-2009. However, the Non-Karnataka candidates appearing for PGCET - 2008 are eligible for those seats available against the management quota of private professional institutions, in such cases where the institutions have surrendered their quota of seats to CPAC.

Eligibility:

Admission to MBA & MCA courses shall be open for the candidates who have passed the Bachelor degree examinations with not less than 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all the years of the degree examinations. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC / ST and Category I, the aggregate percentage of marks in the qualifying examinations shall not be less than 45%. Provided that for admission to MCA the candidate shall have passed Bachelor degree with not less than 50% of marks with Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science / Computer Programming / Computer Applications / Business Mathematics / Business Statistics as one of the optional or electives at Degree Level. Provided further that in respect of candidates who have studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50 % of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST and Cat-I, 45 % of marks in that subject shall be considered for Admission. The candidates applying for part-time course in MBA must have worked for not less than three years in an establishment and must be working in an organization within a radial distance of 40 KMS from the institution in which the candidate seeks admission.

1) The written test will be conducted for MBA course between 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM and for MCA course between 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM on 15-06-2008 (Sunday) at various centers as specified in Brochure supplied with the application. 2) For both Karnataka & Non-Karnataka Students admission will be based solely on performance in written test (PGCET), then followed by counseling for seat selection as per merit.
